1- Housing Prices in Israel Continue to Soar
As reported by Cynthia Blank in Arutz 7 news 8/16/15.
Housing prices in Israel soared last year by 5%, new figures published Sunday demonstrate, with a 2.7% increase in the last quarter (April to June) alone.
Despite the heady increase in housing prices, Israeli continue to buy - likely from the fear prices will simply continue to rise - with mortgages taken out in June totaling 7 billion shekels ($1.75 billion). The report also found that the government's measures to reduce housing prices - for instance, increasing purchasing tax at the end of June - actually resulted in an increase of real estate transactions before the new tax was implemented.
Most regions are seeing continued rises, including Ashkelon, Netanya and Jerusalem, where house prices increased by 8-11%. According to appraiser Tal Alderoti, “the reason for the continued leap in housing prices is the public's impatience with waiting for new housing policies promised during March elections. This trend indicates that the public still does not anticipate a fall in prices in the near future”.
(Note: After the rush to purchase before the tax rise - current buyers are now taking into account the additional expense affecting their budget. )
2- Hamodia – September 3, 2015
Housing Minister Yoav Galant’s comment that ‘housing prices are not expected to go down and that the promise of a future decline is so minor, signals to investors that this is an excellent time to enter the market and purchase apartments’.
In the past, when housing ministers declared that prices should go down, they only went up. Relating to disagreements in the housing ministry, the Israeli public feels that there is no one in charge of the housing market. The way they see it, they have to find an apartment and buy it right away so at least they should have something.
