1- As reported on Arutz 7 on Sunday June 14, at MK Kahlon's behest, the government approved increasing the purchase tax on apartments and homes purchased for investment. The tax increase will go to 8% (an increase of 3%) + , depending on the price of the investment property. An investment property is defined as one purchased by an Israeli who already owns a primary residence or a foreign buyer.
The theory behind Kahlon's plan is to increase the supply of available homes, by making housing less attractive as an investment. The tax increase is in effect as of midnight June 23, 2015.
If you are buying an apartment now and planning to make aliyah within the next 12 months, check with your lawyer or Nefesh B’Nefesh regarding this tax.
There are other changes to real estate taxes to the seller as well. We suggest doing your due diligence with a very competent real estate lawyer or tax accountant so that you won’t have any unexpected financial surprises at contract signing.
